The Graduate Certificate in Yoga Therapy (GCYT) program delivered by the Australian Institute of Yoga Therapy is Australia’s longest running educational program for the training of qualified Yoga Therapists.
Founded by Leigh Blashki in 1991, the Australian Institute of Yoga Therapy (AIYT) was the first organisation in Australia to offer professional training to enable experienced Yoga Teachers to develop their skills and experience to become qualified, registered Yoga Therapists. The AIYT is widely recognised in Australia as the preeminent Yoga Therapy training institute, and is also highly regarded internationally.
In the 11 years since the AIYT began offering professional development we have trained over 60 graduates to achieve industry recognised training qualifications in the field of Yoga Therapy. Today under the Management of Director Janet Lowndes, the Australian Institute of Yoga Therapy continues to provide quality professional development for Yoga Teachers and Yoga Therapists. This program provides the opportunity for qualified Yoga Teachers to extend their skills and scope of practice by training to become a qualified, registered Yoga Therapist.
The AIYT GCYT program is Registered with Yoga Australia, the peak body representing Yoga professionals in Australia. Graduates of our program will be automatically eligible to seek Registered Yoga Therapist membership with Yoga Australia. Graduates may also apply for Registration with the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists.
The next intake of our Graduate Certificate in Yoga Therapy program will commence in April 2017, and will run for a minimum two year period. The qualification may take up to five years depending on the students own pace of studying the individual course modules, and their timing of the Practicum Component.
PLEASE NOTE - THIS COURSE IS POST-GRADUATE TRAINING FOR YOGA TEACHERS WHO HAVE LEVEL 1 YOGA AUSTRALIA MEMBERSHIP OR EQUIVALENT, PLUS 300 HOURS OF YOGA TEACHING EXPERIENCE. IT IS NOT A TRAINING PROGRAM TO BECOME A YOGA TEACHER, AND IT IS NOT A TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS FROM OTHER MODALITIES WHO WISH TO BECOME YOGA THERAPISTS. THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR YOGA THERAPISTS IN AUSTRALIA STATE THAT A SUBSTANTIAL YOGA TEACHER TRAINING QUALIFICATION BE ATTAINED PRIOR TO UNDERTAKING STUDY IN YOGA THERAPY.
The AIYT GCYT program meets the Educational Standards for the training of Yoga Therapists in Australia and is Registered with the peak national body representing Yoga Professionals - Yoga Australia
Graduates of the full AIYT GCYT program (all 5 Modules plus the Practicum Component) will be automatically eligible for Yoga Therapist registration with Yoga Australia, and may also apply for membership of the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists.
This training will provide the practical skills and related scientific and traditional knowledge required to become a competent and effective Yoga Therapist. Graduates will develop a high level of competency in all aspects of Yoga Therapy, underpinned by an experiential understanding of the practice of Yoga Therapy.
The program will provide graduates with the requisite skills and professional standards to take their place as well qualified professionals in the fields of integrative healthcare, complementary therapy, wellbeing and personal development.
This qualification provides 650 hours of professional vocational training, which can contribute toward the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for Yoga Australia registered teachers.
All Face to Face sessions will be conducted in a central Melbourne Location (venue to be confirmed).
All live webinars will be conducted on an online webinar platform which you can log in to from wherever you are - provided you have access to a high speed internet connection.
